Take Your Safety Program to the Next Level with OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program

December 2, 2021

Does your organization have a best in class safety program? Does your organization want to be recognized as a leader in safety? If the answer is yes, then OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) might be the next step.

OSHA describes the VPP as a program to “…recognize employers and workers in the private industry and federal agencies who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.” Also, according to OSHA, “The VPP has a 20+ year history, and the average VPP worksite has a Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) case rate that is 52% below the average for its industry. VPP participation can also lead to lower employee turnover and increased productivity and cost savings.”

OSHA has recently modernized the online application process which, according to a November 22, 2021 news release, “makes it easier for candidates to start, continue and get assistance with submitting their applications.”
